To Play or the Play -- (an update)

We all have lives beyond our "toy soldiers" and some of that is now taking time away from my gaming.

I am an actor. No, no one you've ever heard of. I act in local productions (sometimes called "community theatre") . . . and I am currently in rehearsal for an original play by a playwright here on Vancouver Island.

Now, while I'm enjoying this very much, one of the drawbacks is that we rehearse on Sundays . . . which is our usual gaming day. So until the play is over I'm not likely to be fighting on the table top.

Hopefully though I will be able to do a fair amount of reading and painting.

The rest of life does indeed get in the way sometimes. Ah well... I'll be keeping an eye out for your next post.

Good luck with the play!

Hi Jeff,

What's the title of the production you are in?

Best Regards,

Stokes

The play is "Night of Shooting Stars" by Michael Armstrong. It is a sort of "film noir" detective story set in the late 1950s.

Well it is actually set in the present, but much of the action takes place in my character's memory.

I play a retired private detective and besides the modern day scenes, I have monologues throughout the scenes in the past.

I thank you all for your kind good wishes.

Morning Jeff,

This sounds like it's right up my alley. Any chance I could find a copy somewhere to read?

Best Regards,

Stokes

Well, as some famous guy said, "the play's the thing"! :-)

It's good to have other interests and creative outlets.

Stokes,

The play is an original (the playwright is also directing) and, as far as I know, it is unpublished (in fact we've already had a few rewrites). However, I'll ask him at tonight's rehearsal if I get a chance.

I had forgotten that it really does fall into your field.
