Yet Power Woes, Down for 36 Hours --

Well, we got hammered with two big storms -- one a warm tropical low called a "pineapple express" and the other a cold Alaskan low. They collided over Vancouver Island. Winds reached 140 hm/hr (hurricane force) north of us, but we only got gusts to 90-something.

Lots of rain (90mm one day) . . . which resulted in our power going out again before 8 am on Wednesday morning and not returning until after 8 pm on Thursday night (over 36 hours). This is in addition to all of the other power outages which we've suffered since last Sunday.

At least we now have running once again . . . although there's a "boil water" order with it. We are, however fortunate in that we were not flooded and no trees came down around our cabin (although many others were not as lucky).

Thus, while it has been a strain, we are alright.

Good to know that all is well there Jeff, I was on the road to Nanaimo that day.

The lower highway around Qualicum was blocked (I was on the upper highway) and the upper road was a wind tunnel at nearly every river valley crossing.

Definately a 'blustery day!'

Good to here things are okay Jeff (if a little dark).

I remember going camping to Cornwall in august (supposedly the hottest month of the year). One day of blazing sunshine spent surfing on the beach. Then the next day we came back to find the tent gone and the campsite flooded as the storms hit.

Shortest holiday ever until this years debacle.

Well, as Murdock can apparently testify, we didn't catch the worst of the storm by a long shot . . . but life gets considerably less easy without power or water.

Needless to say, I didn't get anything done ala miniature-wise.

Hang on there, Jeff...

We have been fortunate enough down here to avoid an outage, yet.

Glad you all are warm and dry! Time for some reading by candlelight I guess, it is tough to paint minis without the sun or massive quantities of electric power. Perhaps you could work on your rules during this period of discomfort.

best wishes,
Donald~
