The Hussars --

David Morfitt of the 'Old School Wargamers' was kind enough to create a template for hussars. And thanks to him, I'm able to give you an idea of what the Saxe-Bearstein Hussars will look like.

I've given them a gray background because the second uniform is mainly white.

The Heineken Hussars are mainly in green with red trousers.

The Hopfenperle Hussars are mostly in white with a red pelisse.

Of course I might decide to change these but probably not. I do intend to mount them on a mixture of galloping horses . . . some with legs bunched, some with legs outstretched. In addition, unlike my other mounted units, their horses will not be matched, but will be different colors.

Once again I'd like to thank David Morfitt for his fine hussar template.

SUPER Jeff,

I think I shall have to do up something similar...

Very nice, and I shall have to do the same as well when I have time.

Do you think there'd be enough interest to warrant doing other SYW horse and foot templates in a similar style?

Hi David,
since I'm *not* the one who would spend time & efforts on it, it's rather bold, even indecent, from me to intrude.
A pet idea of mine is the creation of an exhaustive compendium of mythical LaceWars uniforms (initially from both the OSW & SOCDAISY Yahoo groups): 'our' Funcken; other members seemed to find the idea interesting. The Emperor vs Elector campaign blog would be a favorable support to start this, & obviously these templates the *perfect* medium for a standardized style of ilustrations, & an ideal tool for bloggers/Imaginations' armies creators to publish their original creations. Of course other 'country-builders' could later join, mainly at first from the OSW & SOCDAISY Yahoo groups which are well linked to the Emperor vs Elector blog : such as Otto (Saxe-Burlap und Schleswig-Beerstein =
Princess Trixieland), Henry Hyde (though he seems somehow retentive), Pete Murray's SCHWIESSLANDER, Mike Covell's St. Maurice & its arch-enemy garycomardo's Ardoberg-Holstein, Joe Saur's Grand Duchy, nancella20170's Electorate of Bratwurst, nmprovost's Pink pandours... & some other I apologize not to remember by now.
Even those who designed an-historical uniforms for different H&M periods could use the SYW templates to give us a good idea of their creations (as did Dwarfman with his
quasi-napoleonic Anthro-Paphburg Civil Wars) & could easily be integtrated, while keeping the homogeneity of the whole...

So yes, templates as different as grenzers, highlanders, light cav. in shelljackets, (roger)rangers... would find their use, together with a large diversitry of lapels, cuffs, headgears from Davy crokett to Janissary though a lot of helmets... And hoping one could mix part of different templates, e.g. the very special torso of a Highlander with grenzer from the waist down, for those scottish mercenary units that sttled in Ruritania...
Anyway, thanks for what you have already done!
Cheers,
Jean-Louis

Hi Jean Louis,

Thanks for dropping in! It was your post on the OSW forum that prompted me to have a look at the Saxe Bearstein blog and so have a go at a hussar template. I did try IMing you via Yahoo about it but it would not work. I should have posted a message to you by the OSW forum but didn't; sorry about that.

I'll certainly have a go at a few other templates as soon as I can (though I can't promise to cover all the possibilities and I may well be rather slow at it - as always, other things in life usually take priority) but I do like the idea of a sort of Funcken of all the wonderfully varied imaginary 18th century states' armies. Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes. My first new templates will probably be Croat and Hungarian infantry-style templates. I think there's also scope for generalised French/Austrian style "sloppy" coats and the much slimmer Prussian coat templates, so that there are real differences in the appearance of the armies in the templates. And then there are all the others you mention! Well, we'll see... :-)

I don't have an imaginary SYW state and army but this is a fun way of having some sort of involvement!

Regards,

David.

Excellent work on the templates, and good luck with your project. I like the color schemes for the regiments. It's tempting me to do the same. Very tempting...

Work in progress here: http://www.woodward.toucansurf.com/Buildings/SYW/SYWFrenchInfantryWIP.png

It was Jean-Louis' post on OSW that started me on this so it seemed appropriate to do some French-style infantry templates - as well as the fact that they are nice and simple to do. There'll be variants with different pocket flaps, cuff buttons, lapels, etc. - quite easy to do once the basic shape has been drawn.

I've just sent Jeff a basic template for Hanoverian infantry and look forward to seeing it in all its glory (TM) on the blog soon. ;-)

Hi Jeff,

Hey, I think I finally have figured out the profile photo thingy you mentioned in your recent comments over at my blog. The national standard of Stollen should now appear with each comment I leave at the various blogs I visit periodically. Cross your fingers!

On another note, where might I find the various blank templates you've used here recently? The hussar uniform template is especially nice.

Thanks again for your suggestions and help since last summer. I sure appreciate them. Hope you've had a chance to get down to brass tacks with your recently arrived RSM figures. Looking forward to seeing how things are progressing.

Enjoy the weekend,

Stokes

Hi Stokes,

I'm glad you liked the hussar template I did. If you'd like it and also the new Hanoverian infantry template I've just done, send me an email at morfitt [at] lineone.net and I'll send you them.

Regards,

David.

Hi Jeff,

I've just sent you an email at 20.44 my time, after receiving an email from you that suggests that none of mine have been getting through to you recently. This email has the latest version of the Hanoverian Infantry Template, including the grenadier cap. Let me know if you do (or don't !) receive it, please. Thanks.

David.
