Uniforms Using New Template --

Well, here is the new template showing Saxe-Bearstein Infantry units . . . including the Grenadier Guards. (Remember to click on graphic to see it full-size.)

My thanks once again to David Morfitt who was kind enough to draw up these uniform templates for our use.

Hi Jeff,

Good looking uniforms there! I'm eager to see them on your figures. By the way, thans for forwarding David's uniform templates to me a few days ago. I sure appreciate it.

Best Regards,

Hi Folks,

I've started a blog on/for the SYW templates; see http://nba-sywtemplates.blogspot.com/2007/06/fons-et-origo-or-how-it-all-started.html

Nothing there yet except my introductory comments but I'll post the templates there ASAP. There'll just be the hussar and Hanoverian infantry templates for now until I do some more, which I hope will be soon. I have a tendency to tweak the templates I have done so far, so note that the latest version of the hussar template has the later much taller kolpak or fur cap of the SYW period rather than the small 1740s cap of the first version.

Beautiful designs, and inspirational! Once I've completed my Daftest Africa set-up, I'll be investing in some SSM figurines for my ImaginNation of Hetzenberger.

Can you suggest a graphics package to use to colour them in!
I am currently using my girlfriend's mac and need a graphics package!

cheers

meadows boy,

I know nothing about Mac's . . . but, unless it is a very old black-and-white Mac, it probably already has what you need.

Almost any graphics program has a "fill" feature where you select a color and click inside the area you want and it changes to that color.

On many graphics programs this is indicated with an icon of a paint can. Take a good look -- your girlfriend's Mac may well already have what you need.

If it doesn't (and, again, I use a PC so I don't know Macs), you might well find a free or inexpensive simple graphics program at one of these "download" sites.

Perhaps someone else can point you to a more exact program.

Austrian Line (German) infantry template now up on my blog: http://nba-sywtemplates.blogspot.com/

David.

P.S. Probably Hungarians next, as they're easier than Grenzers - which I'm sorry to say, Jeff, will now be last in the list! (Too different from the normal infantry uniform therefore too much original work to do at the moment...) And then of course there are those importunate cavalrymen of yours... Again, they need more original work so take longer. I'm afraid they'll have to sit around in the barracks in their rags for a little while longer.

To David,
anew compliments and thanks!
Do you endvisage Highlanders?
Could the template be modular, so one can combine, say, the torso of an Higlanders with the lower part of an Hungarian infantryman (and a David Crockett, tail removable) : there are here and there reference to 17°C. scottish mercenaties who settled e.g. in Ruritania and The Grand Duchy With No Name (by Joe Saur "shandibrigade" of the SOCDAISY)...
Cheers,
Jean-Louis

Please keep us aware of the development of your ImaginNation and its army!
Always glad to learn about a new mythical country.

Hi Jean-Louis,

Thanks! :-)

Yes, I have a 42nd Highlander on the list, but some way down as it's a very different uniform from the usual. As for modular - well, in any Paint-like program it should be possible to cannibalise bits of the templates, although I must confess I like the authentic uniforms and such cannibalising would probably cause me to "avert my gaze" or turn a blind eye!
