Saxe-Bearstein Uniforms --

As I have mentioned before, I am using SYW Hanover as my "guide" for my Saxe-Bearstein uniforms.

While I certainly do not expect to paint them all at once, I have posted a picture of what my infantry uniforms will eventually look like.

Note -- I've removed the picture since it turns out that the original line drawing apparently came from the baccus6mm.com website. Peter Berry of Baccus has asked me to direct people to his website's "How To" section where there are painting guides.

http://www.baccus6mm.com/index.php?content=howto

All of the uniforms pictured were actually used by Hanover except for two . . . well, one and a half. Since I've removed the graphic, you can no longer see it . . . but the coat color is RED with a variety of facing colors -- white, yellow, orange, light green, dark green, light blue, dark blue, lavender and black.

The "black" regiment actually had white turnbacks although the cuffs and lapels were black. The "lavender" regiment is fictional (but I didn't want to double-up on any colors).

As for cavalry, the "heavy cav" wore white uniforms with various "regimental colors" except for the grenadier guard cavalry, which wore red.

The Dragoons wore white as well . . . but I want them in something different . . . so I'm going to "cheat" and put my dragoons in yellow-brown coats.

As for the Hussars, well history gives me a very nice selection. The Luckner Hussars wore two completely different uniforms . . . and I shall use both, plus some frei corps Hussars if more are needed.

Anyway, that's the plan.

Can't wait to see 'em -- The red will mean that your figures will be striking in appearance. What brand and shade of red will you use? Will you officers have scarlet and the enlisted me a duller "brick" red?

Best Regards,

Stokes,

All of my paints are currently in storage. My wife is Canadian and we have moved to British Columbia . . . but until our condo in California sells, most of our stuff is in storage while we are renting a small cabin.

Sadly, I have no place to paint here while we are essentially living in a tad over 600 square feet of cabin.

So I can't really answer your question completely. What I've often done in the past (such as with my GNW Swedes) is to use a slightly different coat color with each unit (making it harder to get them mixed up). But just what I'll do when I can finally start painting my boys will have to wait until I can actually work on them.

I primarily use 2 oz "craft paints", but I don't remember the brand name. I remember that one of the reds I like is called "tomato spice".

So I'm afraid that I really can't satisfy you yet.

Good planning Jeff. Nice uniforms too.

Thank you, sir!

While my paints are in storage, planning is about all that I can currently do.

Hello, Jeff:

Tomato Spice is one of those Delta Ceramcoat colors and it's a good choice for a base color on red coats. It covers well, too, as it's one of the opaque colors. Delta did a good thing when they started putting how opaque a color is on the label.

Hope you can settle in to something more permanent soon so you can get back to painting!

Yes, Patrick, that's it. Ceramcoat is the type of paint I use the most. Thank you.

We are really anxious for our old place to sell so that we can get something up here with a little room (and especially a "game room" for me). I'm also getting worried that before much longer it will get too cold to prime figures (I use a spay primer) . . . and I HATE brush priming.

One of the things that I like about the "Tomato Spice" is that it doesn't look too "primary colorish".

Anyway, in the meantime I can do some work on my "Tricorne Wars" rules . . . (but I want to play with my toys)!
