Map Updated on October 25, 2014 |
I might well use this for an upcoming Solo Campaign War between Saxe-Bearstein and those ever-vile Stagonians . . . but using on-line rulers to run the larger aspects of the campaign.
What you see above is a stretch of the the Azkyk mountain range which separates a pair of traditional enemies . . . and unfortunately there are numerous passes through the hills that armies might use.
What I was thinking about was allowing each side the following:
- Four "Field Generals" -- One of whom must protect the capitol.
- Sixteen "Brigadiers" -- minimum of three with each General
- 30 Battalions of Foot -- 6-10 with each General
- 20 Regiments of Mounted -- 4-8 with each General
- 30 Battalions of Militia Foot -- max of 4 per city
- 10 Guns for Field Generals -- 6 light, 4 medium
The Militia troops are not mobile -- they are also of "poor" morale and only usable to defend their own city. (I will have four such units that could be used for either side so that is why a maximum of four per city.)
Indeed, if it was not already obvious, the above numbers are suitable for the troops I have available . . . basically three times my ten units of foot and two times my ten units of mounted.
I still have some painting to do (three of the Milita units) and my rules to polish before I can contemplate running this . . . and, of course, the recruiting of my opposing Ruler/Generals.

Excellent! looking forward to see this develop more!!!
A question, are you using hex map or nodemapping? I see both on the map.
And out of interest, which rules do you refer to by "using on-line rule(r)s to run the larger aspects of the campaign."?? Or it's not rules after all? :)
I will be using the "hex lines" on the roads to estimate travel times.
Some folks online will decide how to deploy and move their forces. I will act as umpire and let them know what they know and when they know it.
I will solo play any battles. I have some serious health problems which hinder much face-to-face gaming. But by playing solo I can take a break anytime I tire (which is often).
But I still have to polish up my "house rules" converting them from face-to-face to a card-driven solo format.
I hope that this helps to clarify the answers to your questions.

Sounds like a good plan Jeff.
Will you go with a theoretical organization of 3 battalions per regiment with only 1 being able to appear at a time or come up with extra regimental names?
Love the map Jeff. Just the sort I'd like to use for my own games. The game sounds interesting too, so I'll be keeping an eye out for more once you get it underway.
Cheers,
Steve Turner
Ross, you got it, sir. Each of my 10 Foot Regiments will have 3 Battalions (all separated in different armies, of course) . . . and the same concept with the Mounted arm (only two sections each instead of three --- again all separated).

Thanks for the comments, Steve. However, please note that I am also busy painting ECW troops at the same time . . . so my hobby time gets a bit thin sometimes.

Hi Jeff.. love a good map and that's a good'un... I actually bought GameMapr, but it doesn't seem to be available any more...
I think that is still available somewhere on a CD with lots of other stuff . . . but no longer available from original author.
It certainly wasn't a fancy graphics program but it did serve its function and didn't require much of a learning curve.

Thanks for the free map Jeff, I'm sure it will come in useful one day for my own Imagi-nations. Glad to hear you are recovering from the serious medical issues and can enjoy some gaming in this way. After 3 years my own medical condition seems to be all clear so I'm looking forward to even more face t0 face games when I get a new wargames room later this year.

Wonderful stuff Jeff. Your map is a cracker and may get pinched at some point. Your plan is very similar to how I'm running my "remote controlled" ECW campaign. I'll be following this with interest and would love to participate if the opportunity arises!
On October 25, 2014 I replaced the previous map with an updated version.
The new version includes names for the major rivers and the smaller towns.
